Chandigarh, July 26: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann launched a sharp criticism of former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday, accusing him of ignoring Punjab’s drug crisis despite taking an oath on the sacred Gutka Sahib to act against it.Mann questioned why Captain now speaks of human rights for drug smugglers while so many families lost their children to addiction during his tenure. He pointed out the painful irony of political leaders enjoying lavish lifestyles as countless young lives were destroyed by drugs.Highlighting the deeper issue, Mann accused both Congress and BJP leaders—including Captain Amarinder Singh, Charanjit Singh Channi, and others—of siding with a known drug smuggler who played a major role in spreading synthetic drugs (chitta) across Punjab. He added that the problem was allowed to flourish under the Akali government and grew further when Captain became Chief Minister.Reaffirming his government’s commitment, Mann said the campaign Yudh Nasheyan De Virudh has already weakened the drug network, and anyone who profited from Punjab’s suffering would be held accountable. He urged citizens not to be misled by those who once protected traffickers and promised that justice will be served to secure Punjab’s future.
