The incident occurred around midnight at his residence in Ghumar Mandi, Ludhiana. He was immediately transported to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where medical professionals pronounced him dead upon arrival.
According to initial police reports, the fatal injury resulted from an accidental discharge of Gogi’s licensed pistol while he was cleaning it. Family members corroborated this account, indicating that Gogi had a routine of cleaning his firearm daily.

He was particularly committed to the rejuvenation of the Buddha Nullah, a heavily polluted drain in Ludhiana. In August 2024, expressing frustration over delays in the project’s execution, Gogi took the symbolic step of demolishing the foundation stone of the Buddha Nullah Pipeline Project, which he had initially laid in May 2022.
On the day preceding his death, Gogi remained actively engaged in public service. He convened a meeting with Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and environmentalist and Member of Parliament Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal to discuss strategies for cleaning the Buddha Nullah. Additionally, he visited the Prachin Sheetla Mata Mandir in BRS Nagar, where a theft had recently occurred, and assured the temple authorities of prompt action to apprehend the culprits.
